3 Reasons Why Zoom Provides the Best Video Conferencing Software

Updated: 27 Feb, 2017 | Deena Anreise

Technology has made remote collaboration a no-brainer. We have smartphones that we take everywhere, allowing us to connect with anyone at anytime. We use email to reach out to current and prospective clients, communication tools like Slack and Ryver to chat in real-time with team members, and scheduling apps to keep our calendars and meetings up-to-date.

But not all technology is made equal.

Take online video conferencing software, for example. It's tough to find a one-size-fits-all solution that will satisfy a business's need for crisp video, reliable sound quality, and ease of use (joining, participating, screen sharing, annotations, etc).

We've all experienced the pain of online business meetings gone wrong.

A Video Conference Call in Real Life

Zoom Video Conferencing

At Prialto, we use a variety of cloud-based video conferencing solutions. Whatever online video conferencing software our clients use we adopt and become pros if we aren't already. If they don't have a solution they use, we work with them to flesh out their needs and decide which solution is right for their business. For our own internal meetings, we typically use a combination of Join.me and Skype. Neither are stand alone solutions. Each have their serious drawbacks.

Enter Zoom.

Zoom Video Conferencing

When we started using Zoom's video conferencing solution for internal meetings. we were all pleasantly surprised that the features actually work as described, especially the HD video conferencing. We're able to seamlessly join meetings, toggle between participants to share screens, and make notations that all participants can see in real time.

What Makes Zoom So Incredible?

Zoom combines HD video conferencing, online business meetings, webinars, and mobile capabilities into one collaborative solution.

But the best part is that only one person has to download Zoom. Everyone else can simply click on the meeting link (reoccuring or unique) and jump right in from their phone, tablet, or desktop.

There's no need for expensive video conferencing infrastructure either. Which brings us to our list...

IT administrators love Zoom, because it can be activated instantly on Zoom’s cloud or deployed in 30 minutes onsite using the Zoom Meeting Connector, an extension of Zoom's cloud infrastructure that is used in your internal network.

Zoom Meeting Connector

Zoom's Meeting Connector is free and provided as an OVF/VMDK, which can be installed (and distributed globally) in minutes. Zoom provides you with the ability to scale capacity quickly and easily whenever you need to by adding VMs. In addition, failover and load-balancing features give your online business meetings the reliability they deserve.

You'll receive online monitoring in addition to comprehensive system and data usage reporting. Zoom's cloud provides instant global service backup and takes care of housing administrative functions while video, voice, and content sharing data runs on your cloud.

Before switching to Zoom, Prialto had to use two separate video conferencing platforms in tandem to create one workable meeting space, as mentioned above. We used Skype for its video capabilities, and Join.me for screensharing and audio. Full transparency: having to combine solutions has been less than ideal.

With Zoom, there's no need to combine various video conferencing solutions in order to achieve great results for online business meetings. We simply use Zoom. We've noticed a complete drop off in both delays and downtime. And if we ever need anything, Zoom offers a comprehensive knowledge base on their website.

Here's an example of a brief, easily digestible and entirely useful snippet of information that will teach you exactly what you need to know about scheduling a Zoom meeting:

Zoom's Standout Features:

  • Screen sharing, content sharing, annotation, messaging, recording
  • Webinars, demos, tutorials
  • Group meetings, client meetings, multiple participants, personal meeting ID
  • Integrations, mobility
  • Zoom Rooms

Zoom Rooms

Conference rooms are notorious for being overrun with cords, cables, and the like. But Zoom Rooms are wireless. With one touch, you can start meetings through your calendar system or use voice commands. Personally, I like the touch screen capabilities. The price tag is pretty attractive, too.

Your business will save time and money by using video conferencing for online business meetings. No one needs to travel, there aren’t upfront costs to set anything up (unless you opt for conference rooms), and you can speak with anyone on any device from anywhere in the world.

Savings add up quickly when you utilize remote collaboration.

Advantages of Video Conferencing for Businesses

Zoom is arguably the best free video conferencing software available today. The Basic version is free and allows unlimited 1:1 meetings. If you want more participants, Zoom offers unlimited meetings for two or more participants but caps each meeting at a 40 minute limit.

Among some cool features included in the free version:
